Knee Pain in Teenagers

Does your child have knee pain? Is knee pain stopping them from enjoying sport?

Common causes of knee pain in teenagers include patello femoral pain syndrome and Osgood-Schlatter’s disease (growth plate problem). These problems should not be ignored as they can lead to excessive strain on joints and injuries as a result of abnormal walking and running styles and reduced participation in sport.

Podiatrists regularly treat knee pain, as your foot posture and walking pattern influence the movements which occur within your knee.

A good way to show how your foot posture is related to knee function is to stand up and place your finger on your knee cap. Flatten your arch then heighten your arch. You will see that your knee cap (and finger) rotate substantially. This rotation can stop the knee cap from tracking and gliding smoothly, resulting in grinding and clicking, pain and eventually arthritis

At your appointment our podiatrists will take a thorough history, assess all joints and muscles, posture and walking pattern and advises you on the best treatment to help keep your child active for life.
