Children’s Feet

A child’s foot is not simply a mini version of our adult feet. Rather it is a complex structure of bones, ligaments and muscles under rapid development.

The bones and joints in a child’s foot continue to develop rapidly after they are born, and are not fully matured until young adulthood. The feet of young children are soft and pliable and prone to a number of different problems. If your child suffers from any of the following we do recommend an assessment by one of our podiatrists:

  • Flat Feet

  • Gait (walking abnormalities) eg. Pigeon toes

  • Growing pains in the feet, knees and legs (growing pains are not always considered normal and we advise that they be assessed by a podiatrist as they can generally be treated)

  • Sports injuries and pain during and after sport

  • Ingrown toenails.

  • Uneven shoe wear.

  • Lumps or bumps in the feet, knees or legs.

  • Pain or aching in the feet, knees or legs.

  • Tripping and falling occurs.

  • Skin or toenail problems

  • Family history of foot problems

  • Limping/growing pains

  • Plantar warts

Our podiatrists at the Active Foot Clinic have a keen interest in management and prevention of children’s foot problems.
