Shin Pain

At the Active Foot Clinic we regularly assess and treat athletes with shin pain.

Case Study: Resolution of Melissa's sever shin pain

Melissa had severe shin pain so much so that she felt like her shins were going to break when playing sport or netball. We assessed Melissa thoroughly and gave her clear direction on how we were going to resolve her pain. With treatment Melissa's pain has resolved and she has continued to play sport.

Our patients case studies are only ever published with patients permission

Shin pain generally has three main causes:

·         Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints)

·         Stress Fracture

·         Compartment Syndrome

How does my podiatrist find out which condition I have?

All podiatrists at the Active Foot Clinic have training in Podiatric Sports Medicine. Careful questioning by your Podiatrist, isolation of the painful area  and assessment on our state of the art video treadmill gait analysis system will generally make your diagnosis clear. If further imaging and testing is required it will be arranged by your podiatrist.

Your podiatrist at the Active Foot Clinic will then make recommendations to reduce your pain, resolve your injury and get you back to sport as quickly as possible.

Treatment options may include rest, ice, specialised orthotics to correct your foot posture or take strain off inflamed or injured structures, footwear recommendations, exercises, anti-inflammatory therapy and training you on how to run and walk more efficiently to reduce the pain.

If you are suffering shin pain make an appointment with an Active Foot Clinic podiatrist today and Run Without Pain.
